Inv. n°: MMoCA848
Bronze Figure of a Gladiator ('murmillo')
The gladiator prepares to attack, his left foot advanced. His left arm - which probably held a shield ('scutum')- is raised and his right arm is angled, ready to lunge forward. He wears a metal belt over his loincloth ('subligaculum'). A leather bandage ('manica') is wrapped around his right arm. It is typical for a murmillo that he wears a leg-guard on his left leg only. Furthermore, the gladiator wears the typical murmillo helmet with heavy bipartite visor, rounded crown, broad brim and low crest holder.
