Late Roman Cavalry Parade Helmet

Ornate, bronze, of a shape worn by cavalry soldiers. Highly decorated with a relief design done in repoussé technique - on the front an imposing Roman Imperial eagle stands on a wavy ground line indicated by punch marks. On the back, two winged Victories hold up a wreath. Like other helmets of this type it may have been fitted with a metal face mask that is now missing. A triangular shaped visor projects over the forehead and has two small round protrusions from the sides of the visor.
