Roman Silver Kantharos (Drinking Vessel)

The kantharos is a deep bowl with an ovoid body and a foot, characterised by two high, vertical handles. The Romans adopted this type of bowl, first used by the Greeks. It was used to drink wine during banquets and celebrations dedicated to the god Dionysus/Bacchus.
