Electrotype Copy of the Ribchester Helmet, a Roman Sports and Cavalry Helmet
With one-piece skull decorated in relief with a combat scene involving cavalry and infantry, flanged at the neck, shaped to the back of the ears, and with prominent peak, and detachable hinged life-like face-mask pierced at the eyes and nose, shaped to the front of the ears, and with two studs for the leather chin-strap, on its black mould stand with applied brass plate engraved 'RIBCHESTER ROMAN SPORTS AND CAVALRY HELMET 1ST 2ND century A.D. It is understood that this is one of four electrotype copies produced in 1983 using moulds taken from the original helmet, which is preserved in the British Museum.
