Pair of Hellenistic Lion-headed Earrings

The lion heads are separately made in sheet gold, by hammering into a mould or former and then finishing the details of the mane and eyes afterwards. These hollow units were then soldered to the trumpet-shaped end of the hoop. This was decorated with two bands of plain wire in concentric scrolls accented by granules, separated from one another by beaded wires.
