Phoenician Large Four-Sided Lead Sarcophagus

Decorated in relief the long rectangular sides with a band of laurel leaves and a frieze divided into six panels by Corinthian columns, alternately showing dolphins with a central medusa mask and laurel leaves with a central seated sphinx. A border of scrolling vines below, the arched panel ends, one with temple façade with four Corinthian columns and a vase with foliate tendrils spiralling upwards between the end two columns. The pediment roof above formed from a band of laurel with ivy leaves at the terminals and a central Medusa mask roundel; the other end with an eight armed cross formed from four twisted rods with ivy leaf terminal and a Medusa mask roundel at the centre.
