Roman Red Gloss 'Terra Sigillata' Bowl with Vegetal Decoration and Inscription
Set on a grooved ring base with the lip in two degrees, both covered with fine rouletting. The moulded decoration is in two registers. The upper is bounded by rows of dots and filled with a continuous scroll, made up of winding stems, some with leaf terminals including stipular and trefoil forms, and others with flower-heads. The lower frieze repeats the dots at the top and alternates panels based on the saltire-cross, filled with pomegranates and other foliate forms, and semi-circular wreaths containing two birds between large ivy leaves. In the interior, encircled by two grooves, is the stamp 'DARRA FE(cit)' (Done by Darra).
