Graeco-Persian Gold Pyxis (Vessel) with Animal Friezes

Lid and bowl decorated with an ‘orientalizing’ animal frieze in repoussé. The animals include bulls, lions, goats and antelopes and are represented as grazing, striding or leaping. Some face left; others right. The frieze on the bowl is framed by meander and a tongued frieze, whilst the frieze on the lid is framed by a bead moulding. Small star-rosettes as filling ornaments.
