Roman Marble Over Life-Size Head of Bacchus (Dionysus)

Dionysus (Bacchus) is the god of wine, grape harvest and divine ecstasy in Graeco-Roman mythology. He is depicted with a long oval face, his head turned right, the fleshy lips drilled at the corners, the bulging unarticulated eyes with thick lids, the hair a mass of dense curls, encircled by a wreath of ivy leaves.
